Meetings are highlighted by invited speakers or special themes. October is usually reserved for the members' only ever-popular Silent Auction and December is the year-end dinner and awards night.
Held at the Centennial Lodge (click to view aerial map and photo) in beautiful Queens Park, New Westminster. Meetings begin at 7:30 PM, the second Tuesday of every month, commencing February 2008 (changed from 7:45 PM by a November 2007 General Meeting vote and there is no meeting in January - see the November 2007 Newsletter, p. 2). Members receive a courtesy phone call or email as a reminder. Individual meeting drop-in fee: $2, free for NWHS members.

Just attending the meetings is only part of belonging.
It is by getting to know the other members - becoming friends with that common
interest, gardening, that you can really benefit from the club. You may notice
an emphasis on sharing - that's what friends do. Read on, and take part...
The meeting offers more than just listening to the speaker. We start with the business portion of the meeting, when items of interest to the members are discussed (e.g., Treasurer's Report, overview of upcoming events). Tea is served after the business. At this time, members socialize, buy tickets for the raffle and/or choose a library book. After the raffles prizes are distributed to the lucky winners, our speaker takes the stage.
Wander around the room during tea and you will discover many facets of the club.
To make our meetings enjoyable to all our members, we strive to be SCENT FREE. Please refrain from using scented personal care products. Thank You.
As you enter, pick up your name tag, the newsletters and other handouts of interest - and please sign the attendance sheets. On the bulletin boards, you will find announcements which the club has received. This is the location of the seed exchange. Help yourself to the processed packets. If you have gardening items (e.g. magazines, plants, dried materials, seeds) you would like to give away, bring them and place them on the Free Table located in the Foyer. If you have gathered seeds, clean them as much as possible and drop them off in bulk. They will be labeled and packaged for the next meeting. Of course, detailed labeling of donated seeds is invaluable.
This is where you will find sign up sheets for outings and activities. Sign up sheets involving money will be located at the Treasurer's Table. If a speaker brings items for display or for sale, this is the location.
This is located right inside the main entrance to the meeting room. If you are visiting or would like to join the club, this is the place to stop. This is also the place to stop if you need to make a change to the roster, including email addresses. If the club is selling anything, this is the place to order and pay.
Everyone loves the raffle! The tickets are cheap (2 for $1) and the prizes are great! Although the club purchases the majority of the prizes, many are donations from club members.
The array of goodies is courtesy of your fellow club members. Each month, donators for upcoming months are solicited. The club supplies the beverages. There is no fee to enjoy these offerings.
Books are available to members on one month loans. See the librarian to sign one out this meeting. Please return it the next. There is no charge. Donations of good gardening books are welcome.
Donations of quality items are always welcomed by the club. The club thrives on donations. If you have something that you would like to donate enquire at the Raffle or the Head Table. Your offer will be accepted and steered toward the appropriate location: raffle, library, free table or held over for the Silent Auction. Thank you for your generosity.
